Visit to Yorkshire by Geoff Tranter and 20 Dortmunders

Geoff says that his group is really interested in getting to know Leeds and particularly to meeting people from Leeds. So any of our members who would like to join them at any time during their stay, whether on the walkabouts and/or equally on our Saturday trip to Otley and Ilkley are very welcome to come along. They have a large coach (50 seater) and can accommodate quite a few! And of course people in the Wharfedale area can simply join them either in town or near the Cow and Calf Rocks.

One particiular item on the programme is the planned Leeds-Dortmund Meet-Up on Friday afternoon at 4.00 pm. They are planning to meet on Dortmund Square and they would really like to get a group of Dortmund and Leeds people together in front of the Dortmund statue. That would make for a good photo which could be used to promote interest in the twinning in both cities. It would also be an excellent opportuntiy for conversations in both English and German, and afterwards people could get together for coffee or something stronger in oner of the local restaurants or pubs.

PROGRAMME

16. October:

10.30 : Arrive York – Guided Tour of York City Centre followed by stroll and lunch

13.30 : Depart for Leeds

15.30: Guided Walkabout through Victorian Leeds (Arcades, Markets, Corn Exchange, Leeds Bridge, usw.)

19.30 : Dinner in the oldest pub restaurant in Leeds – Whitelocks

17. October

10.00 : Guided Walkabout Waterfront, City Square, City Centre, Town Hall to Civic Hall

12.30 : Official Welcome by the Lord Mayor of Leeds in the Civic Hall

14.00 : Lunch in the Tiled Hall Café

15.00 : Continue guided walkabout

16.00 : Leeds-Dortmund Meet-Up in Dortmund Square

20.00 : Dinner

18. October

09.30 : Coach trip through North Leeds to the Yorkshire Dales

10.30 : Walkabout in Otley (Otley Saturday Market)

12.00 : Leave for Ilkley - Cow and Calf Rocks

13.00 : Lunch snack in the Cow and Calf Hotel Restaurant

15.00 : Guided tour of Ilkley and Yorkshire Cream Tea in Betty’s Café

19.30 : Dinner in Leeds

19. October

09.30 : Coach trip through Leeds to Kirkstall with visit to Kirkstall Abbey and Abbey Museum

13.00 : Lunch

15.00: Leave for Hull
